There have been no emergencies or accident or incident at the tailings management facility (TMF) Lyulyakovitza, or at any of other production facilities of Assarel-Medet, the company said concerning the inspections on the pollution of Banska Luda Yana river. The inspection of the company has shown that the treatment and hydraulic facilities operate normally. Water samples have been taken to identify possible variations in water quality in the Asarelska river. As part of the investigation of the region, Pazardjik RIEW experts have carried out checks in Assarel-Medet on 9 and 10 December. The submitted to Assarel-Medet verification protocol shows that the cause of pollution of the river is mud from the cleaning of a small dam located in the bed of the Asarelska river. Company-contractor carrying out the cleaning had not taken measures to secure the site and prevent entry of mud in the bed of the diversion channel of Asarelska river, resulting in sediments in part of the bed of the river Banska Luda Yana. Assarel-Medet has been prescribed to immediately take measures to suppress and prevent the entry of mud in case of cleaning of dams. This is achieved, the company assures.
