The first private hydro power plant (HPP) in the region of Pazardjik will be built in Lesichevo municipality by the end of September, mayor Mr.Ivan Stoev announced. The plant is expected to start operating by the end of this year, after it is included in the national energy network. The building of the facility has been financed by Delectra Ltd. Sofia, and is to the value of BGN 500 000. Over the past two years, the State Energy Regulation Commission has issued more than 100 licenses for building of small HPPs.

The first hydro power plant in the Pazardjik region will start operation by the end of August, said Alexander Kostadinov from building contractor SK-13 Hidrostroy. Water for the twin-turbine 4.5 MW facility will be abstracted from a canal linking the Belmeken-Sestimo hydro cascade with the Topolnitsa River. The power plant, financed by Sofia-based Delektra EOOD, will be plugged into the national grid by end-2004.
