The Bulgarian ready clothes are forming 16.5 per cent of the total export of the State for the European Union in 1998, was reported from the European commission. Compared to the other sectors of the Bulgarian industry that are included in the export list of the State, the export of clothes reveals a double increase for the last 5 years. Almost 75 per cent of the companies for production of textile and knitwear and 90 per cent of the tailoring companies are privatized. Over 51 per cent of the companies in the branch are privatized in the line of the mass privatization. From 10 to 60 per cent of the shares in the branch are held by totally 36 funds.
