28% of the capacity of Bulgargaz's contract with the Turkish gas company Botas has been used As of August 2025, 28% of the capacity of the contract between Bulgargaz and the Turkish gas company Botas has been used, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov said. It turns out that nearly 1/3 of the contracted capacities are being implemented. The contract includes a 13-year commitment to pay 1,050 million leva per day, regardless of whether the infrastructure is used. This daily amount is indexed each year with inflation, and the liabilities of Bulgargaz EAD for the entire period of the Agreement will exceed 6 billion leva. In 2023 and 2024, 13% of the contracted capacity was used. In 2025, 28% of the capacity was used as of August, which does not mean that the contract has become profitable," the energy minister announced. Technical talks between Bulgaria and Turkey continue to renegotiate the contract, and on September 26, by order of Stankov, a working group was established with representatives of the Ministry of Energy and BEH to search for options for renegotiation, as well as to "search for the most favorable option for restructuring relations in order to protect property and financial interests." A request was also made to "Botas" to optimize the daily quantities by reducing them, as well as to divide the amount of the daily fee paid by the Bulgarian state into two components - fixed (due regardless of the quantities transferred) and variable (due in proportion to the service and quantities).
